iNK Think Tank sponsors the Nonfiction Minute, an online site that displays an original short piece (no more than 400 words) of intriguing nonfiction every school day to inspire young people to want to learn more, along with an audio file of the author reading the selection and images. The Nonfiction Minute is a perfect way to start the school day by displaying that day’s Minute on the white board for reading and discussion.

To view the Nonfiction Minutes that are posted and search topics,  go to .  There you can read that day’s Minute, search topics, go over the T2T notes link for tips on teaching strategies, and listen to the author read the post out loud.

Here’s a link to a post on this website of the text and photos for one of my Nonfiction Minutes as an example, “Everything is Connected: The Butterfly Effect and the Wolf” about the cascade of ecological changes brought about when the wolf was returned to its natural home in Yellowstone National Park.  And here’s a link to another wolf post I created for the Nonfiction Minute site.
